As in any other industry, content marketing plays a significant role in the eCommerce industry where direct-to-consumer marketing tactics are implied.

However, many online store owners and DTC marketers ignore the importance and power of content marketing.

But the truth is that every other traffic-driving activity you do will work even better for you, lowest cost of acquisition, with the right content marketing strategy and execution

Whether you are running ads through PPC (Pay-per-click) campaigns or optimizing your website for a search engine to get ranked, neither of those will work for you to get a boost in traffic without content marketing.

So, without waiting any further, let’s start from the beginning and build a solid content foundation to lower COA (cost of acquisition), improve customer lifetime value, and grow the brand for long-run success.

What does Content Marketing mean?

It is the creation of content in various different formats such as written articles/blogs, videos for tutorial or knowledge, infographics, podcasts, and the sharing of the content to the targeted audience also known as “Niche” with the goal of getting more people to the website, generating leads and building brand value.

“Content marketing is a form of inbound marketing, designed primarily to bring an audience to you, from where those people are already out searching for answers online—whether that be on search engines, video discovery platforms, social media networks, or otherwise. “

How to use Content Marketing to stand out (today)

It has become very challenging to truly stand out from the competitors with content marketing.

A 500-words blog post about some subject which your prospects might like no longer makes a difference and cannot boost your website traffic.

Nowadays, content marketing has changed a lot and now it’s like a race to the top in terms of the amount of free value, brands and individuals are willing to offer through content creation.

So, the question stands, how can you differentiate yourself in the current landscape of content marketing?

Let take the blogger and content marketer, Ryan Robinson’s recently created guide to learning how to create a blog, as an example.

With billions of search results and thousands of competitors competing for the top spot in search engines like Google and Bing rankings, He has been able to achieve the first-page result in a very short time, just in a few months.

How? By providing the maximum amount of value for this particular subject of matter, going way above and beyond his competitors.

His guide on “learn how to blog” had approx. 21,000 words in length, while other guides which were ranking for those keywords had around 10K words. Which makes Robison’s guide much more in-depth and informative.

Moreover, on top of the level of depth, Robinson’s post also contains embedded tutorial videos, interviews, screenshots of his own processes and results, audio recordings, customized infographics, free downloadable templates, and even more in-depth free course for readers that want to further their education on building a blog.

Therefore, looking at this example, shows that you need to raise the quality and quantity of information you are providing through your content.

So, know as you know the importance of content marketing, let’s briefly talk about the fundamentals of developing a successful content marketing strategy and how it is going to take your marketing efforts to the next level.

What Should Your Content say?

The biggest challenges your target audience or Niche are facing today!

Introduce your audience to free content that can immediately help them to solve their initial problem, doing so will give your prospects confidence in choosing you when it’s time for them to invest in the service, solution, or resources on the subject at hand.

Know the question arises, how can you identify these most important and pressing questions, problems, or challenges of your target audience?

Also, how can you meet those needs with high-quality and super engaging content in the format your audience wants to consume?

Talk to your audience and ask them.

Connect with your existing audience and ask them about their biggest challenges and take their answers as potential ideas for future content you could produce.

Make sure to start with the problems which are more common in your target audience to help and inspire more people with your informative and problem-solving content.

This also is extremely useful when it comes to prioritizing features for your product in the long run.

Look around and research your competitors.

Every business has competitors and they are already out there answering the questions with their content for your target audience.

Check which questions your competitors are answering?

What format are they using?

Then, identify ways you could create something that stands out as more unique and valuable.

See into your own experience and share your unique story

You wouldn’t be able to build your business without learning a thing or two about the industry you’re in.

Chances are, you’ve got some unique experience and insights to share through content, with others in your audience who want to replicate your success or achieve a result you’ve gotten.

Build a cohesive and fully diversified content strategy by utilizing different content formats such as blog posts, videos, eBooks, PDFs, etc., and drive traffic from paid advertising campaigns to make your target audience interact with your content.

Now that you know what your content should say? Let’s learn about how to drive traffic to your website and how to implement accurate call-action throughout the content to convert the visitors into customers.

To do so, you’ll need to increase your website’s domain authority- a measure of how authoritative search engines like google, Bing, Yahoo view your website-which takes time and consistent efforts.

Consistently writing fresh and informative content, then getting that content shared and mentioned by other websites who already have good domain authority like established brands and individuals in related fields can help you a lot in building your website’s domain authority over a period of time.

Social Media Marketing

Once you have your content written, it’s time to start sharing it with your target audience.

Firstly, determine where your target audience congregates and spends most of the time. In order to do so, you might want to learn about the demographics of each social media platform to decide which one to target for your marketing strategy.
