5 Reasons a Website is Crucial for Your Business

If you own a business and you do not have a website, you are missing out on some great opportunities for your business. This is also true if you already have a business website but it is unappealing, out-dated and non-mobile friendly.

Before I get into the reasons why a website is crucial for your business I will present you with a few interesting facts about business websites:

  • 56% of small business owners listed a website as their top marketing tool.
  • 38% of people will stop engaging with a website if the content and layout is unattractive or not aesthetically pleasing (Source: Adobe)
  • 48% of people list the design of a website as their number one factor when deciding on the credibility of the business (Source: Medium)
  • Mobile devices now account for nearly 2 of every 3 minutes spent online (Source: comScore)
  • 48% of people say that a business website that does not work well on mobile indicates that the business simply does not care

Having a website isn’t just about selling your goods and services to customers – it’s also about providing a valuable source of information for your potential customers.

As shown in the facts above, a website is viewed as the leading marketing tool by 56% of business owners. So, if you don’t already have one, what are you waiting for? And if you do have one, why are you not utilizing it to its fullest potential?

A website that is well-maintained can help you perform well in your industry and out-perform your competitors by improving your business image. A well-developed site offers many benefits for your business including (but not limited to):

  • The ability to obtain more leads for your business;
  • The ability to increase your sales;
  • The ability to enhance your business brand; and
  • The ability to improve your customer service offering.

5 Reasons Why a Website is Crucial for Your Business

  1. It gives your business credibility and trust

    Having a website for your business gives you the opportunity to tell prospective customers why they should trust you. The use of reviews, testimonials and facts on your site will help with this. Most people now use the internet to research a business’ credibility before doing business with them. Your website is the best platform for you to build this trust from the get-go.

    When you back this up with good service, positive reviews will spread through word-of-mouth. This, in turn, will deliver much more new and repeat customers for your business.

    People are much more likely to trust your business after they have done business with you. Your site will help you to continue building this trust during all stages of the customers purchasing process.

  2. It will give your business more social proof

    The best form of social proof comes in the form of reviews and testimonials from other customers. In fact, 90% of consumers say that online reviews affect their purchasing decisions. Relying solely on third-party review sites such as Yelp, Trip Advisor and FourSquare is not advisable.

    Your potential customers will already be searching for you online. Take advantage of this by having a clean, user friendly site which includes testimonials and reviews. The testimonials and reviews will work as a great way to impress these potential customers.

    You will be “killing two birds with one stone” – an attractive looking website with excellent reviews.

  3. It will make you visible on Google

    81% of consumers conduct online research before they buy. What does this mean to you?

    If you don’t have a website, it means that you will never show up for any of these searches.

    If you do have one, you can optimize your site to show up on the first page in Google search results. The higher you rank in the search results, the more visibility you will have for your potential customers. There are many ways you can customize your website to improve your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) including titles, meta descriptions and long-tail keywords.

  4. It is a great way to build your email list

    As I outlined in one of my earlier blog posts, email marketing is an effective method to grow your customer base. And guess what? Your website is a great tool to help you grow this list. By adding sign up forms and call-to-action buttons to your site you can automate the collection of email addresses for your list.

    Provide your visitors with engaging content that they will find interesting and valuable and they will be compelled to sign up for updates. Email addresses can be hard to come by – but your website can do some of this work for you.

  5. Your customers expect it

    6 out of 10 consumers expect brands to provide content about their business online on some digital platform. Over 50% people will go straight to the business’ website to get information on the business.

    Without it, you risk the tech-savvy generation ignoring your business in favor of your competition who have already embraced this change. This may sound blunt, but it is the reality of the world we live in today. A professional website is now a pre-requisite for any business, big or small.

And so much more…

I could sit here all day listing reasons why you should have a website for your business. However, I don’t want to bore you! The 5 reasons in the post above should be more than enough to convince you that you need a website for your business. Not only that, but you need a site that screams “trust” and mirrors the story of your brand.

The Bottom Line: Without a website, your business is at a massive disadvantage!

I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. Do you already have a website for your business? What other reasons would you add to the list?
